A love story
Watch legends come to life. Each week, our three outdoor performances combine to create one love story based on ancient Maya tales and myths.
Day 1: The Arrival
Tuesday - 8:30 pm
And so the story begins on the beach...
Mayan rowers have just rescued a castaway on a canoe journey from the island of Cozumel. When they reach the mainland, the people see that the man is different from them – white – and they are afraid. The village leader, the Chaman, orders to offer the white man up as a sacrifice to the goddess. The Chaman’s daughter, however, pleads on the man’s behalf. Overcome by fatherly love, the Chaman grants his daughter’s wish and spares the foreign man’s life.

Day 2: The Sacred Cenote
Thursday - 8:30 pm
This Mayan tale tells the continuation of the tragic love story between the brave foreigner and the beautiful Mayan princess...
They first met when the princess, the daughter of the Shaman, saved the man’s life that night on the beaches of Xcalacoco when her father planned to offer the foreigner as a sacrifice to the goddess Itxel. As time passed, the pair met in secret every night by the cenote. Nature was the perfect setting for the thousands of words they taught each other: day, sky, night, tree, water, fire, light. The bond formed between them was so strong that nobody could ever break it. One of those nights, the Shaman saw the couple by the sacred cenote. His rage was so great, that he ordered to have them both killed.
