Getting married in Mexico

REQUIREMENTS FOR GETTING MARRIED IN MEXICO:


Bride & Groom MUST ARRIVE  AT LEAST THREE WORKING DAYS (Monday to Friday) PRIOR TO THE WEDDING DATE and must provide the following documentation:
-Valid passports: Although passports are not required for US citizens for their entry into Mexico, they are mandatory for weddings.
-Tourist visas: They are provided at the airport upon entry to Mexico.
-Original blood test and medical certificate: The blood test must be done in Playa del Carmen, or in any other place within the Mexican territory and it must be certified by a doctor in Mexico, as required by the Civil Ministry. This is to determine blood type, H.I.V and S.T.D.   Under Mexican law, couples that test positive cannot get civilly married in Mexico. The blood test is done at the hotel and arranged by the wedding coordinator at the cost of $220 US per couple, to be paid in cash.
-Four witnesses (can be relatives or friends): These are required by law. If witnesses are not Mexican citizens, they must provide a copy of their passports or any official photo IDs and their tourist visas. Plus, they must arrive at least 3 working days prior to the ceremony. The hotel can provide witnesses at an additional charge of $30 US per witness.

The following may be added to any of our packages (at an additional cost if it’s not included in the package you select). Please ask our Wedding Coordinator for prices of the following:

  -Photographer or videographer.
-Mariachi or other musical group.
-Blood test (performed at the Resort).
-Translation to another language.
-Bouquet, boutonnière, corsages, etc.
-Make-up artist and hair styling for the bride; you can make your appointment with the Spa.
-Special decorations, small bottles of bubbles, rice bags, small ornamental bells decorated with flowers, etc.
-Private dinner or cocktail party in one of our swimming pool areas with a minimum and maximum number of guests. Please ask our Wedding Coordinator for options and menus for your wedding dinner at a special price.

IMPORTANT NOTES

-The names on tourist IDs and passports MUST be the same, according to Mexican law.
-The marriage certificate needs to be “apostilled” to be valid in your country; there is an extra charge of $50 US, plus delivery charges.
-In case the bride is divorced, please check the special documentation required to meet Mexican laws.
-These documents should be given to the civil judge TWO BUSINESS DAYS before the wedding (the Civil Registry Office is open from Monday to Friday).
-In case the judge who speaks English is not available, the translation will cost $50 US.
-In case of bad weather, the ceremony will take place in an alternative closed area.
-Dress code for the restaurants is casual-formal. Long pants and closed shoes are mandatory for men.
-These packages are valid ONLY for guests staying at Sandos Hotels & Resorts. If your guests are not staying at our resorts there will be an extra charge of $77 US per adult and $39 US per child as a “day pass.”
-Prices are provided by supplier. They  may change without notice.
